Children are new to this world, they are inquisitive.  Children learn a lot and intensely, learn to understand, and this comes as an experience for them.

Experiencing takes time, sufficient time and assurance, to allow development and unfolding.

What we aim to achieve…

We want to get to know each child with his/her special requirements, to establish a relationship and learn with him/her. The children learn primarily at play, joyfully and through opportunities in line with their development stage.

They make many a cognitive experience by experimenting, and in dealing with human beings and materials. We counteract the limitations of the handicapped child through specific promotion measures; we attempt to help the child to perceive more, to get a grasp on the environment. Perception comprises all the senses: hearing, smelling, tasting, seeing, touching. Not only do we employ special therapeutic material, we work above all with objects from our environment, everyday occurrences that help children get a bearing on their own environment.

For Whom?

The therapeutical kindergartens accept able-bodied children and children with physical disabilities and/or multiple disabilities from the city of Graz and the surrounding district (Greater Graz area). The gravity of the disabilities varies.

Our competence

Graz Kindergarten

Regular cooperative groups

In our small groups (there are three of them), six handicapped children each are attended by one specially trained and one regular kindergarten teacher, as well as an assistant. Additionally, within the framework of every-day kindergarten life, physiotherapy and ergo-therapy, speech therapy, as well as psychological care are offered as required. The small group offers sufficient stimuli in order for the kids to gain basic experiences. Support is being offered where an active grip on the environment is not possible. A protective frame provides security, trust, and a feeling of shelter.

Integration groups

Our integration groups (there are four of them) offer 12 non-handicapped and 3 handicapped children the opportunity to gain everyday experiences together. Under the motto "living with & learning from each other", one specially trained and one regular kindergarten teacher and an assistant look after the children. In addition, physiotherapy and ergo-therapy, speech therapy as well as psychological counselling are offered for the handicapped children. The children, in playing jointly, develop a lively interest and mutual understanding. The paedagocial opportunities are determined by the abilities, possibilities and inclinations of the children.

IZB - Integrative additional care for the Greater Graz area

IZB represents a set of comprehensive care and support instruments, allowing handicapped children to attend the kindergarten of their home community. For parents and kindergarten teachers, seeking advice and help in supporting disabled children or those with an incipient disability, mobile teams are avail- able. Each team consists of a specially trained kindergarten teacher, a speech therapist, a physiotherapist, psychologist, and a paediatrician.  The main task of the team consists in holistic child care, for those having special needs in the general-access kindergarten.

In our integrative adventure playground there are special objects which they can listen to, marvel at and experiment with.
